Bob served four terms as Mayor of the City of Cloverdale and was the longest serving member of the Cloverdale City Council, having served 14 years until July 4, 2008.  He served two years on the Cloverdale Planning Commission prior to being elected to the City Council.

During his tenure, the freeway bypass was opened, and Cloverdale’s core was transformed from a state highway to an attractive, pedestrian-friendly downtown.   Bob chaired the early years of the Cloverdale Economic Development Commission, forging the plan that would create jobs in Cloverdale by providing support for the community’s businesses.

Bob participated in the update of Cloverdale’s General Plan twice, in 1994 and in 2008.  He has an intimate knowledge of the city’s land use policies, and the dynamics of the decision-making process.

Bob was a member of the League of California Cities Board of Directors, bringing him in frequent contact with State Legislators and the Governor’s Office.

Bob’s service on regional boards and commissions gave him a keen insight into the interaction among all levels of government.  The relationships he has developed over 16 years provide him with entrée to offices of policymakers in Washington D.C., Sacramento, and throughout California.

Bob was the longest serving member of the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, serving a total of 11 years.  He served as Chair in 2006 and 2007.  He is a Past Chairman of both the North Coast Railroad Authority and the Sonoma/Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART).

Bob serves on the Friends Advisory Council of the Sonoma County Community Foundation, and is a Charter Member of the Cloverdale Community Partnership Steering Committee.  He served on the Board of the Sonoma County Economic Vitality Project.

Bob is an active member of the Rotary Club, but considers his biggest honor to have been chosen Cloverdale's Volunteer of the Year in 1994.
